Kath was the guitarist and singer in the iconic American rock band Chicago, and he drew praises from several highly-acclaimed musicians, including Ray Charles and Jimi Hendrix. Despite that acclaim, Kath’s name rarely appears in conversations about rock’s most influential guitarists. Terry Kath was just a week shy of his 32nd birthday when he accidentally killed himself. In the late 1970s, Kath faced health issues and struggled with drug abuse. Sadly, he died in January 1978 from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
